TERRY LEE WARNER, age 60 of Durand, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2014 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel. Pastor John Walworth will be officiating with burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Vernon. Terry's family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m.

Terry was born December 1, 1953 in Flint, a son of Edward and Lucile (Luchenbill) Warner. He attended Durand High School, graduating in 1972. He married Karen Elaine Lauderdale that same year on November 11th and together would raise 3 daughters.

Following high school, Terry went on to college where he received his Journeyman's Card. He went to work for General Motors at the Flint Metal Center and has been there for the past 41 years. Terry was a union rep. for over 18 years with the Region 1C local union 659. He was Alternate Committee Man for over 18 years and then Committee Man for close to a year. Terry loved the outdoors. Stealhead fishing was one one of his favorite things. He also enjoyed camping, boating, golfing and the time spent with his family.

Terry is survived by his wife of 41 years, Karen; 3 daughters: Tessa (Tim) Phillips of Durand, Tara (Dale) Prince of Durand, Tiffany (Derick) Rosser of Byron; 4 grandchildren: Tyler Phillips, Tanner Phillips, Zarien Jordan, Trinity Rosser; his mother, Lucile Warner; 5 siblings: twin brother, Gary (Gladys) Warner, Larry (Linda) Warner, Jerry Warner, Mike (Kelly) Warner, Mary (Mike) Stone as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Warner was preceded in death by his father, Edward Warner.

HELEN MARGARET MURPHY, Helen M. Murphy age 93 of Detroit, MI passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014 at The Lodge of Durand. There are no services at this time. Arrangements handled by Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Jennings-Lyons Chapel of Owosso.

Helen was born April 17, 1921 in Detroit, MI a daughter of John and Elsie (Delor) Schwab. On August 21, 1941 she was married to George Murphy. He preceded her in death in 1983. Helen was an active member in the Catholic community. She loved BINGO and taking care of her son Tim.

Surviving Helen are her children, Pat (Anne) Murphy of Owosso, Tim Murphy of Detroit, and Terry Murphy of Lansing and grand children, Kelli, Mike, Chris, and Sean.

BASIL JONES, age 92 of Durand, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Memorial Healthcare Center in Owosso. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2014 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, 501 N. Saginaw St. Durand, MI 48429. Pastor Rick Story will be officiating with burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Vernon. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. and Friday 1 hour prior to the service.

Basil was born February 2, 1922 in Nelson Lancashire, England, son of William and Beatrice (Wilmore) Jones. He came to the U.S. in 1926 as a young boy at the age of 4. He spent his life in the Durand Area and graduated from Durand High School in 1944. Mr. Jones was a Draftsman. He worked at Simplicity Engineering, Bendix Aviation, Redmond Co., and retired from Midland Brake in 1981.  Basil also worked as an EMT with the DVA Ambulance for 15 years.

He was a ball player and played in many leagues in the Durand and Owosso areas. He also enjoyed golfing and hunting. His largest deer was a nice 8 point buck. Mr. Jones was a builder of many projects, wood working and models of airplanes, cars, battleships and aircraft carriers. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II as a T4 in communication. One of Basil's favorite quotes was Love in life lasts forever.  He loved his family and enjoyed his time with his grandchildren.

Mr. Jones married Betty Lenore Chase at the Durand First Congregational Church on August 10, 1946, built their home in the Durand area and together raised two fine children.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty; daughter, Diane Reeves of Corunna; son, Gary (Lynette) Jones of Durand; 4 grandchildren: Shane (Amy) Jones, Nick (Nicole) Jones, Blake Jones, Keith Jones; 10 great grandchildren: Cody, Joshua, Avarey, Blake, Alyssa, Taylor, Leah, Jason, Chloe and Carter Jones and great great grandson, Vincent Jones.

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Irene Jones; brother, Sydney Jones and granddaughter, Misty Reeves.

TERRY DEMILLE DEAR, Terry D. Dear, age 64 of Durand, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2014 at the Durand Senior Care and Rehab Center. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel with Pastor Eric Johnson officiating. Terry's family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6-8 p.m.

Mr. Dear was a member of the Duffield United Methodist Church in Gaines. He enjoyed bowling and softball. He coached girls' softball in Durand for a number of years while his girls were in school. Terry also enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially the Tigers, Red Wings and Spartans.

He is survived by his 4 daughters: Krystal (Rodney) Young of Imlay City, Karri Dear of Dryden, Rachel (Jacob) Karhoff of Grand Rapids, Terri Dear of Durand; 2 step-children: Shannon Cook and Brian (Tiffany) Cook; 8 grandchildren: Carlos, Analysia, Bianca, Santiago, Ariela, Austin, Ashton, Aubrae; 4 step-grandchildren: Branden, Erynn, Warren, Wyatt and former wife and mother of Rachell and Terri, Pamela Dear of Durand.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Buren and Celia Dear and his step-son, William Cook.

JARED JOSEPH KITTLE, Jerald J. Kittle, age 68 of Durand, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel with Pastor John Walworth officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 5-8 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. There will be no visitation on Monday.

Jerry was born June 28, 1945 in Flint, the son of Delmar and Catherine (Nequist) Kittle. He joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and served his country faithfully during the Vietnam War, being honorably discharged in 1966. On February 17, 1968, Jerry married Jane Schmidt and together would raise 3 children. Mr. Kittle later went to work for General Motors, retiring from Quality Control at the Metal Fabrication Plant in 2007 after 38 years there. He was a member of the Durand VFW Reed-Raymond Post 2272 as well as the American Legion. Jerry enjoyed classic cars and collecting model boats, but above all he loved the time he had with his family and grandchildren.

Mr. Kittle is survived by his 3 children: Dwayne Kittle, Shannon (Roger Hemphill) Brooks, Kathy (Scott) Linzey; grandchildren: Austin, Jerad, Katelyn and Logan; his ex-wife and special friend, Jane Robins (Kittle) and his sister, Sarah Muchler.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

CLAIR RUSSELL HOLMES, age 78 of Barryton, MI, formerly of Bancroft/Durand areas passed away on Monday May 12, 2014 at his granddaughter's residence. Clair was born on July 13, 1935, the son of JB & Margaret Holmes. He married Louise Chapman on October 11, 1956 in Shiawassee County. Clair worked for General Motors in Flint and retired from there.

He is survived by his wife, Louise, daughters Vanessa Robinson of Stanton, MI, Bella Russell of PA, granddaughter Candy (Glen Woodbury) Champlin of Barryton, MI, 4 other grandchildren, several great grandchildren, sister Jenny Moore of Ashley, MI.

KATHERINE ELIZABETH COONEY, age 87 of Durand, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at McLaren Flint.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, 501 N. Saginaw St. Durand, Michigan 48429.  Rev. John Walworth will be officiating with burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Vernon.  Mrs. Cooney's family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Katherine was born January 26, 1927 in Detroit, Michgan to John and Claire (Campbell) Pence.   She grew up in Durand, graduating from high school there in 1945.  On November 26, 1949, Kate married Michael Cooney in Durand and together raised four children.  Mr. Cooney later passed in 2012.

Kate worked for General Motors at the V-8 Engine Plant for over 20 years, retiring in 1990.  She enjoyed her flowers and working in her garden.

Mrs. Cooney is survived by her 4 children: James Cooney, Jacalyn Cooney, John (Mary) Cooney, Jeff (Cari Haag) Cooney all of Durand; 2 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; brother, Jim (Pat) Pence; sister, Marge Clark and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael and her brother, Jack Pence.

HARRY JUNIOR DOUGHERTY, age 84 of Durand, walked into the arms of his beloved wife Monday, May 5, 2014.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel.  Dr. Gerald Woodruff will be officiating with burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Vernon.  Harry's family will receive friends at the funeral home, Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m.

Harry was born October 26, 1929 in East Jordan, MI.  He was one of fifteen children of the late Harry F. and Nellie (Brooks) Dougherty.  After graduating high school, Harry went to work for Grand Trunk Railroad where he later retired as a Switchman.  Mr. Dougherty married Eloise "Wanda" Anderson on August 28, 1950 in Boyne City and together raised 5 children.  After 62 years of marriage together, Wanda passed on October 29, 2012.  Harry enjoyed his summers up north at the cabin and being out on the water, fishing.

Mr. Dougherty is survived by 4 children: Linda (Gary) Marsh of Swartz Creek, Randy (Melinda) Dougherty of Wisconsin, Dr. Patrick (Julie) Dougherty of Ohio, Sally Libby of Durand; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; brother, Nolin; 3 sisters: Marcy, Leona, Dora and many nieces and nephews.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wanda; son, Dennis; siblings: Margaret, Flossie, Alma, Henry, Alfred, Pauline, Roy, Calvin, Betty and Devere.

RUTH MARIE RICHARDS, age 92 of Durand, passed away Monday, April 28, 2014 at the Durand Senior Care and Rehab Center.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 5, 2014 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel.  Rev. John Walworth will be officiating with burial to follow in Byron Cemetery.

Ruth was born March 24, 1922 in Durand to the late Arthur and Cecil (Strickland) Williams.  She attended and graduated from Byron High School.  On June 6, 1942, Ruth married Wilbur S. Richards in Durand and together raised 3 children.  Wil later passed in 1999.  In addition to being a Homemaker, Ruth and Wil purchased a store up north in 1964 and she helped run it for a number of years.  Mrs. Richards was a life member of the Durand VFW Ladies' Auxiliary.  She enjoyed embroidering and was a wonderful cook and baker.  Later in life, she took up golfing with her husband.  She based her life around her husband and her family and was a very loving person.

Mrs. Richards is survived by 2 children: Sharon (Ray) Blair of Bancroft, Ron (Cheryl) Richards of Macks Creek, MO; 5 grandchildren: Curtis Ray Blair, Sherri (Eric) Smith, Kevin (Renee) Kelly, Mary (Mike) Clapp, Brian (Stacey) Kelly; 11 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; brother, Leon (Fran) Williams of Howell; sister, Eloise (David) White of Howell and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by both parents; her husband, Wil in 1999; daughter, Janet Richards in 2013; 3 brothers: Marshall, Arthur Jr., and Perry Williams.

VICTOR "VIC" JOSEPH TEICHMAN, age 94 of Durand, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014 at his home.  A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 3, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 700 E. Columbia Dr. Durand, MI 48429. Fr. Jeffrey A. Poll will be officiating with burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Vernon.  Visitation will be held at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and again on Friday  from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with the rosary being prayed at 7:00 p.m.

Mr. Teichman was born April 30, 1919 in Vernon Twp. to the late Henry Joseph and Caroline (Nickels) Teichman.  On November 13, 1948, he married Mary K. Zimmerman in Corunna.  Vic was the owner of Teichman Motor Sales in Durand in the late 40’s and early 50’s, from there he would work at the Mitchell Corporation in Owosso, he was a postal worker in Durand and later sold tractors.  He was a farmer all of his life.  In his spare time, Vic enjoyed recreational flying, fishing and boating.  Mr. Teichman was the Past President of the NFO in the 60’s and 70’s, he was on the Shiawassee Township School Board and a member of the Dewitt Landing Association at Higgins Lake.

Mr. Teichman is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary; 5 children: Vicki (Charles) Grumley of Traverse City, David Teichman and partner Robert Fields of Lakewood, CA, Linda (Bill) Burns, Sr. of Vernon, Patti (Matt) Hoddy of Bancroft, and Lee (Kim) Teichman of Bancroft; 8 grandchildren: Steven (Beth) Grumley, Andrew (Christine) Teichman, Kaitlin Teichman, Mark Burns, Julieann Burns, Kristin Hoddy, Danielle Hoddy, and Jordan Teichman;  3 great grandchildren: Alicia, Michael, and Matthew Grumley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Caroline; Brother, Robert Teichman and 2 daughters: Mary in 1946, and Kay in 1951.

JOHN ALBERT FUJA, age 82 of Durand, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014 at his home.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2014 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel.  Pastor John Walworth will be officiating with burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Vernon.  The family will receive friends  at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m.

John was born January 3, 1932 in Vernon to John and Mary (Sciga) Fuja.  He attended Owosso High School, graduating in 1949 and then enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving his country honorably during the Korean War.

On August 18, 1956, John married Shirley Pitt in Owosso and together raised 4 sons.  John was a Tool Maker for General Motors, retiring from the V-8 Engine Plant in 1991 after 37 years.  He was a life member of the Durand VFW Reed-Raymond Post 2272, a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Durand, the Durand Knights of Columbus and the Durand Eagles Club. In his spare time you could always find him in his backyard machine shop.  Very few people had the work ethic of John.

Mr. Fuja is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley; 4 chilldren: Mike (Collette) Fuja of Durand, Patrick (Karla) Fuja of Vernon, Joel Fuja of Durand, Jeffrey (Maureen) Fuja of MN; 8 grandchildren; 1 great grandson; brother, Ray Fuja of Durand and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers: Joe, Al, Maryan, Stan and sister, Ramona Hale.

DOUGLAS "DOUG" JAMES CHAPMAN, age 79 of Durand, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Genesys Health Park in Grand Blanc.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel with burial to follow in Byron Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. and again Thursday 1 hour prior to the service.

Doug was born February 14, 1935 in Dearborn, MI to James and Ferne (Ridenour) Chapman.  He served his country faithfully in the United States Navy Reserves during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1960.  Doug married Daisy E. Hunter in Milford on March 30, 1956 and together raised 4 children.  He worked for General Motors for 30 years, retiring in 1982 as an electrician.

Doug was a member of the Florida Flywheelers Antique Engine Club, the Genesee Valley 2 Cylinder Club, All Color Antique Tractor Club in Webberville, the County Line Antique Tractor Club in Lennon and the Genesee Valley Trail Riders CCC Club.

Mr. Chapman is survived by his wife, Daisy Chapman; 4 children: Kim (LeRoy) Helgeson of Durand, Douglas (Darlene) Chapman of Durand, Guy (Mary) Chapman of Owosso, Peggy (Mark) Blackburn of Durand; 7 grandchildren: Daisy (Mike) Blaha, Jeff (Joy) Chapman, Brandy Chapman, Rob Piper, Zachari, Jeremi and Joshua Blackburn; 11 great grandchildren: Maddie, Lilly, Sage, Thomas, Abigail, Aaron, Blake, Adyn, Ella, Brayden and Peyton.  He was also survived by sisters: Carolyn (Lamar) O'Berry of Morrice, Sandra (Roy) Lacy of TN; brother, Tom (Lorraine) Chapman of Durand; sister-in-law, Zella Chapman of Fenton as well as many nieces and nephews.  Doug's family would like to thank their very special Caregivers, Dr. Grivas and his Assistant, Brandy of the University Hospital in Ann Arbor for their exceptional kindness and care.

Mr. Chapman was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerry Chapman; niece, Julie Morris; nephew, Jimmy Chapman and great nephew, Adam Haas.

DONALD EMERSON GANSSLEY, formerly of Lennon, Mi, age 87, died Thursday April 10th. Don was born August 25th, 1926 to Irene and Howard Ganssley. He married Dolores Miller in 1951, served in the Army on the island of Guam. He farmed the family farm and went to work building army tanks at the Fisher Body Grand Blanc Plant. He retired from that plant after 41 years as a toolmaker and was a longstanding member of UAW Local 1292.

Don was blessed with 3 granddaughters that were the light of his life. His extended family of nieces, nephews, and their families were very important to him. He is preceded in death by his wife Dolores Ganssley, brother Duane Ganssley, and nephew David Ganssley. He is survived by his sister Phyllis Gall of Kansas City, sons Gregory Ganssley and partner Joseph Salciccioli of Madison Hts., Gary Ganssley and wife Cathy (Hintz) of Swartz Creek, Granddaughters Kristy of Chicago, McKenna of Flint, and Niki of Swartz Creek.

Cremation has already taken place. A memorial service will be held Saturday April 19th at the Gaines United Methodist Church, 117 Clinton St. Gaines, Mi. Pastor Eric Johnson officiating. WALDTRAUT "WALLY" INGEBORB BYMASTER, age 90 of Lennon, passed away, Monday, April 7, 2014 at the Maple Woods Manor in Clio.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel with Pastor Steve Stahlhut officiating.  Mrs. Bymaster's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-7p.m.

Wally was born April 28, 1923 in Germany to John and Martha Hacker.  In August of 1940, she married Wesley Bymaster in Manistee and together raised 3 children.  Wesley passed on September 28, 1994.  Wally loved time spent with her family and the companionship of her cat, Kitty.

She is survived by her children: Robert (Joan) Bymaster of Durand, Nancy (Welton) Brown of Texas, Bill (Debbie) Bymaster of Millington; 11 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her 2 brothers: Walter (Evelyn) Hacker, George (Mildred) Hacker and her sister, Ursula Reber.

LOUIS F. TOMA, age 80 of Durand, passed away on Thursday April 3, 2014 at Genesys Health Park Hospital.   Mr. Toma was born in Flint, MI on March 8, 1934, the son of Joseph and Margaret (Bogoly) Toma.  He atteded Corunna schools and on August 30, 1958 he married Elizabeth Pavlica at St. Mary's Catholc Church in Morrice.  He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, member of Morrice Knights of Columbus, usher's club and was a Eucharistic Minister and for many years was a volunteer at the Shiawassee County Fair.   Louis was a farmer and worked for GM Buick in Flint for 31 years.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, four daughters; Elizabeth A. (Cal) Crutchleo of Ohio, Mary Jones of Owosso, Helen (Ken) Smolek of Corunna and Kathy Engel & Bruce Parker of Owosso, three sons; Frank (Bobbie) of Durand, Joseph (Lynette) of Durand and Anthony (Jennifer) of Ft. Myers, FL, 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, brother Steve Toma of Durand, sisters Mary (Lee) Shanayda of Mt. Clemens, MI, and Leona (John) Pavlica of Perry, many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by sisters Marjorie Hopp,  Anna Pavlica and his parents. 

A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Morrice on Monday April 7, 2014 at 11:00 AM.  The Rev. Fr. John Bosco will officiate with burial to follow at Bethany Cemetery in Morrice.   The family will receive friends at Watkins Brothers Funeral Home in Perry on Saturday 6-8 PM and on Sunday 2-4 & 6-8 PM.   A rosary will be prayed on Sunday evening by the Knights of Columbus at 7:30 PM.   Memorials are suggested to St. Vincent DePaul or Knights of Columbus.   Online condolences may be sent to www.watkinsfuneralhomes.com
