There was no score after the first quarter and the Railroaders managed to keep Mt. Morris off the board until just before halftime.  At the half, it was Mt. Morris Panthers 6 and Durand Railroaders 0.

Homecoming halftime festivities commenced, with the reveal of the spirit point winning class and the float winning class, and the crowning of the Queen and King.  Well, actually, no...

The halftime clock was bearing down and as the announcements of the 2017 Homecoming Queen and King were made, last year's royalty, Nikki Morish and Tyler Runyan, realized that they did not have the hardware they needed for the official presentation.  So, the announcements were made and photos were taken.

VEHICLE ACCIDENT CAUSES POWER OUTAGE
Consumers: 54 Customers Affected in Rural Durand

A power outage is affecting customers along E Lansing Road between Newburg and Vernon.  The outage is the result of a car/pole accident that occurred at around 8:45pm.  Consumers says 54 customers are affected and is estimating that power will be restored by 3am on Thursday September 14th.

Just after the halftime festivities wrapped and the band came rushing off the field so the teams could start the second half of the game, Queen Raegen Holek was presented with her crown and flowers.  King Austin Gutierrez would receive his hardware later.  (We've asked that a photo of King Austin's crowning be shared with us -- we'll add it to the gallery if/when we receive it.)

This year was the first that the 8th grade class was invited to build a float, and their entry won the contest.  The theme this year was fairy tales, and the 8th graders went with Chicken Little.  The Class of 2018 made it four years strong with a spirit points win.

The second half of the 2017 Homecoming game began and, in short order, the Railroaders tied it up.

By the time the game had concluded, the Railroaders had put another 8 points on the board.  The Panthers, however, had managed to put an additional 14 points up.

The final score of Homecoming 2017 was Mt. Morris 20 Durand 14.

Following the game, the Durand Marching Railroaders took the field for their post-game performance of this year's show, "Contagion."  The band's first competitive performance was slated for September 30th in Chesaning but the Chesaning Invitational has been cancelled.  The band will compete for the first time under the direction of Nick Remesz on October 7th at the Novi Invitational at Novi High School.
