Ronald M. Cole, Sr., age 84 of Durand, passed peacefully away on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at his home after prolonged illness.
Born May 8th, 1935 Durand, Michigan and graduated Byron High School in 1953.
Ronald had worked as an equipment operator in road construction as a young man. Later owning and operating several businesses through the years including a Fueling and Service Station in Flint, Cole’s Services Byron, Gaines Party Store, and the standard bred horse breeding and boarding Pebble Creek Farm in Durand. Prior the harness horse industry dissolving in Michigan, the farm had produced many, many top & state champion performers, several being hall of fame status.
Ronald’s hobbies included metal machine shop fabricating, sighting seeing wildlife, cards, board games, watching sports on television and harness horses. He was a 60 year member of Byron Masonic Lodge, Bay City Scottish Rite, and an Elf Khurafeh Shriner.
He is predeceased in death by his parents Howard E. and Christine L. Cole, former Supermarket Merchants of Byron, and his brother Howard W. Cole of Indian River, Michigan.
He is survived by Judith Ekstrand (partner), and second ex-wife Phyllis (Glaza) and their three sons, Ronald Jr., Michael and wife Ingrid, and Jeffrey. Sister Marsha Bartlett and husband Ronald, grand children, many cousins, nephews and nieces, great grand children and friends.
Due to the pandemic quarantines the family will not hold services at this time. At a future date a Masonic Memorial will be scheduled. Ron’s family is being served by Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel.
