Jean Ivy Hermann, age 88 of Durand, passed away on Saturday June 6, 2020. Jean was born in Hornchurch, England on June 30, 1931. She was a Phys Ed and Kindergarten Teacher before retiring. Jean was very athletic and enjoyed many sports including golf, field hockey, tennis, bowling as well as watching sporting events on television. She was also a big fan of MSU. She enjoyed playing cards, crosswords, jigsaw puzzles and go up north with her friends. She was always a teacher not just to her students but also to her kids and grandchildren.
Jean left cards for Julie and Paul that included these beautiful words:-
“Death is nothing at all. It doesn’t count. I have only slipped away into the next room. Nothing has happened, everything remains exactly as it was.
I am I and You are You, the old life that we lived is untouched, unchanged. Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by the old familiar name, speak of me in the way you always have, put no difference into your tone, wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always did…play, smile, think of me, pray for me, let my name be the way it was always, let it be spoken without effort.
Life means all that it ever meant, it is the same as it ever was.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight.
All is well”
