Barbara L. Thomas, 91, entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 2, 2020 at Owosso Memorial Health System. She was born to the late Walter S. Boutin and Leone (Knapp) Boutin on April 30, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan. She was raised in Alpena and Durand and attended Durand High School through 1946. She was married to Clinton (Tom) O. Thomas on November 23, 1946 in Detroit. During their 55 years together, Barbara and Tom made their homes in Durand, Warren, and Fenton and Clearwater, Florida. She was one of the original residents at Sycamore House in Durand, where Barbara’s Apartment 201 had been her Homeroom in High School. Barbara and Tom were longtime members of the First Congregational Church of Durand.
While raising their seven children, Barbara and Tom loved traveling, camping, and sightseeing all over Michigan. When the couple moved to Florida in 1984, they enjoyed shell collecting and curating, ceramics, traveling the state, and spending time with friends and family. They returned to Barbara’s Durand Hometown in 1995 where they had met in 1944 and fallen in love. She also loved reading, opera, and collecting classic music and movies. Barbara managed the scouting department at Hudson’s in Flint for several years. She was particularly proud of the many years she served as a volunteer with Respite Volunteers of Shiawassee.
Barbara is survived by her sons, Michael, of Okemos, Patrick (Linda), of Byron, Dennis (Janice), of Box Elder, South Dakota, Timothy, of Brighton; daughters Sheila (Mark), of Miami, Oklahoma, Kathleen, of Fenton, and Sharon (Earl) of Leesburg, Florida; grandchildren Carrie Thomas, Christopher Thomas, Rachael Thomas, Anjanette Ballard , Damon Thomas, Benjamin Temple, Toby Temple; Jenna Tidwell, and Cody Tidwell; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family has decided that, because of health and safety concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no funeral or memorial services.
