The Durand Marching Railroaders traveled to Jenison on Saturday to compete in Flight V against ten other bands.
Durand took fourth place with a score of 85.425, landing ahead of Belding, Comstock Park, Tri County and five other bands.
Story continues after these sponsor messages:
Kent City and Godwin Heights took first and second at the contest, respectively, just as they did the week prior in Belding. In Jenison, Durand competed against Watervliet for the first time this season. Watervliet scored 86.200 -- less than one point greater than Durand, but enough to climb ahead into third place. At Watervliet's only other MCBA contest this season, on October 5th at Portage Northern, they scored 84.250 for second place behind Godwin Heights, who scored 84.600. Neither of those scores would have been enough to beat Durand this weekend. Among the bands scheduled for next weekend's contest at Sparta are all four of these bands: Kent City, Godwin Heights, Watervliet and Durand. It's anybody's guess as to how the results will stack up, but one thing is for certain, the Marching Railroaders remain among the bands leading Flight V.
About the show Once every thousand years or so, for one night, the hieroglyphics of Ancient Egypt come to life and get to experience the joys, rage, and sorrow of what it means to be alive. The Durand Marching Railroaders 2019 show will take you on an emotional ride with "The Writing's On The Wall," featuring music from the movie "The Wind and the Lion", and also the song "Writing's on the Wall" by Sam Smith.
After the West Shore Invitational at Sparta on October 26th, the band will play a special performance for the community on November 1st before traveling to Detroit's Ford Field for the State Finals contest on November 2nd.
