Durand Fire Department was dispatched to Durand High School for a commercial fire alarm on Thursday evening. When firefighters arrived, instead of fire, they discovered water.
Durand Superintendent Craig McCrumb told Durand Now on Friday morning that a pipe in the commons area near the concession stand burst and water cascaded toward the gym, eventually covering nearly half of the floor.

McCrumb said Servpro was attending to the water damage but it's unclear right now whether or not the floor will be able to be salvaged.
After the floor dries for a week or so, administrators will know more. In the meantime, the insurance adjuster will be out early next week, he said.
He also noted there is water damage in the roofing area, including outside the building where water became trapped in the overhang. Water also ran into a trophy case. He said those are drying now.
The high school's gym floor was just updated within the past two years.
Games scheduled for this weekend have been moved to Durand Middle School.
