Durand-Vernon Area Ambulance was officially founded on July 1st 1967. This summer the volunteer agency would have celebrated 50 years serving the community. 2007, the agency's 40th anniversary year, marked the end of service after failed negotations with the city for additional funding resources and, ultimately, a lawsuit by the city against the agency.
We're looking for vintage DVA photos, videos and stories of rigs, personnel, the base, training, even the agency in action. If you're willing to share with us, we'd love to include your materials on our newly designed Heritage page, set to be launched very soon. The Durand Heritage will help preserve our local history in images, videos and text.
The mother of Natalie, the Durand toddler discovered beaten and burned, was arraigned Thursday morning in Shiawassee 66th District Court in Corunna on first degree child abuse charges. Neighbors applauded, WSMH reports, as Abigail Rae Springs, 19, was arrested and escorted from her home.
Sheriff Brian BeGole says Springs may face more charges. She is currently being held on a $500,000 bond.
