The Durand Railroaders Varsity Football team traveled to Montrose for a Saturday afternoon matchup against the Rams in playoff action.  For Durand, it was just the fourth time in school history that a football team moved on to the playoffs; in 1982, 1983, and most recently, in 2009.

There's more to the story! Keep reading!

Durand struck first, putting 6 on the board after a fumbled Rams kickoff.  But the Rams were quick to answer, and the conversion was good.  Montrose continued to push and added another 7.  14-6 didn't last, as the Railroaders hit the edge and closed the gap with another 6.  14-12: the closest the game would be.

The Rams' Harden, with help from Skinner, moved the dial up to 21 with another touchdown and PAT.

Player ejection -- after a series of penalties a Railroader was forced to leave the battleground.  And then another.

Meanwhile, Montrose continued to put points on the board, despite a Railroaders fight: 36, 44, 50, 57...

The Railroaders responded before the clock ran out, making the game's final 57-20, Rams, ending the Railroaders historic playoff run.

Durand was one of four Shiawassee County teams to head into the playoffs, but only two will continue on after today.

Morrice defeated New Haven Merritt Academy 46-0.  Byron fell to  Beaverton, 26-6.  New Lothrop and Laingsburg faced off against each other and the Hornets defeated the Wolfpack; New Lothrop 47, Laingsburg 3.

Shiawassee Radio Episode 13: When It's A Tie at the Railroad Crossing...

There's an old saying: When it's a tie at the railroad crossing... you lose. The Railroaders are headed to the football playoffs for the first time since 2009. The team gains entry after tying Imlay City to the thousandth decimal place in scoring, including tie-breakers. So, for the first time in MHSAA history, it came down to a coin toss. Josh Strickland talks to Durand Athletic Director, Bryan Carpenter, about what brought the team here, playoff prep and program history.
