"If we are honest, I think we all knew it would just be a matter of time before we had a student or staff member test positive for Covid-19 and we would need to appropriately work through one of these situations. When it does happen, our intention is to consistently share as much information as possible in order to be completely transparent as well as keep rumors and levels of concern to a minimum," McCrumb stated in the communication.
The district has been in contact with the Shiawassee County Health Department and the agency did not issue a recommendation that other staff members quarantine at this time.
No other staff or students are believed to have been exposed.
"Please remember we will be relying on you as parents to screen your children before school each day in an effort to keep the rest of the children and our staff safe while at school. For us to return to school safely, it will take a true collective school/community partnership in monitoring our children," he said.
Durand students are slated to return to school beginning September 8th. Some students are expected to return to classrooms while others will participate remotely, due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.
McCrumb said he plans to continue communicating information about issues of this type by email, but welcomes phone calls from any parent that wishes to talk or ask questions. He also provided the health department's phone number.
