Melanie and Stephen Pratt, owners of the HQ Mobile Food truck, and the soon-to-open Fun Bunker and Tiger Shark Cafe in the former Durand Lanes building, are expressing their gratitude for "the love and support from the Durand and surrounding communities," at the first-ever Food Truck Throwdown in Durand that happened on Friday night.

Most trucks were closing before 8pm at the event that was set to run 4 to 9, because they had run out of food.

Melanie Pratt told Durand Now that 794 customers were served.  "We had some attend all the way from Clio," she said.

We were there and spoke with those working at nearly all of the food trucks, and all said they were overwhelmed by the turnout that was much greater than anticipated, particularly due to Friday evening's chilly weather.

Picking up some fantastic chicken nachos from Tamale Rose, we were told by owner, Rose Curnett, that she was very happy with the event.  We got the very last order of shrimp tacos from 5-2-OH (ahhh-mazing!) and the very last order of mac & cheese from Heaven on a Roll.  It also gets a big "thumbs up."

Melanie Pratt said "I can't even begin to imagine what it would be like on a nice day...we absolutely will do this again soon!"

The Food Truck Throwdown raised money for Relay for Life of Shiawassee County.
