State Representative Ben Frederick from Owosso, serving Shiawassee County and rural Saginaw County, issued a statement on video in response to Governor Whitmer's vetoes of more than one hundred line items that will significantly impact rural mid-Michigan.
Frederick said Whitmer's motivations for the vetoes that negatively impact rural healthcare delivery, road funding, law enforcement, school safety, support for sexually abused children and more, are disappointing.
"The dollars and the people they represent were cut to be used as leverage," Frederick said. Whitmer proposed a 45 cent gas tax increase that was panned by both Republicans and Democrats in the otherwise bipartisan budget that was passed by the legislature.
"This is a tactic that is unworthy of our state and, frankly, is a lousy way to govern," he said. Watch the full statement below.
