The Marching Railroaders traveled to the Reeths-Puffer/West Shore Invitational at Sparta on Saturday to compete against ten other Flight V bands. Thirty bands total competed at the Saturday event but, due to weather, only the eleven bands in Flight V were able to perform their full show.
Flights I through IV performed inside "stand still" shows, essentially ranked exclusively on musical performance, rather than the typical full production that includes scores for visual presentation and general effect.
Story continues after these sponsor messages:
As in the week prior, Kent City, Godwin Heights and Watervliet earned the top three spots in Flight V. Newaygo earned fourth place at the Reeths-Puffer contest, inching ahead of Durand by less than a single point. Newaygo ended with 85.175. For Durand, it was 85.100.
The Durand Marching Railroaders will offer the community a free performance on Friday night at Roundhouse Stadium before heading to Detroit for the State Finals event at Ford Field.
About the show
Once every thousand years or so, for one night, the hieroglyphics of Ancient Egypt come to life and get to experience the joys, rage, and sorrow of what it means to be alive. The Durand Marching Railroaders 2019 show will take you on an emotional ride with "The Writing's On The Wall," featuring music from the movie "The Wind and the Lion", and also the song "Writing's on the Wall" by Sam Smith.
