The Clayton Township Police Department now says a sign previously thought to possibly be connected to a human trafficking scam is not.

The signs began appearing along area roads and the department asked residents to remove the signs if seen.

MLive says department officials now say the signs are intended to promote cutlery, and are not connected to human trafficking or "a deliberate scam."

The Public Relations Manager for the company responsible for the signs says this isn't the first time concerns have been raised.  Traverse City Police posted a similar message to the one Clayton Township Police Department posted on its Facebook page just weeks prior.
