Weisenstein was sworn in by Sid Thompson, Manager of Post Office Operations - Area 5, who happened to also be celebrating his retirement. Weisenstein would be Thompson's last Postmaster installation. Also in attendance, and pictured above with Weisenstein and Thompson, was Keith Raymond, Postmaster at New Baltimore and Thompson's very first Postmaster installation some two decades prior.
The public was invited to witness the historic event -- something Randy McGeachy said typically happens only when a Postmaster retires. McGeachy will step into Thompson's role as Manager of Post Office Operations - Area 5, temporarily, though he said he hopes it becomes a permanent move. Area 5 is the state's biggest geographical postal coverage area and includes the most offices, he said. McGeachy was among many other postal employees in attendance at the Friday afternoon event.
