Quality Inn in Durand closed on Sunday and will remain closed for two weeks, a hotel employee told Durand Now on Monday.  But Cindy LaFeldt, who works the front desk, wants to dispel a rumor that hit social media on Monday claiming the closure is the result of an employee testing positive for COVID-19.

"That is very untrue," she said.

The post appearing on Facebook reads, in part "FYI the front desk person at Quality Inn in Durand.. tested positive for CV19 so they made everyone leave the hotel."

LaFeldt says an employee did test positive for the flu and as a result, LaFeldt asked the owner to allow the hotel to close for two weeks, to ease concerns of other employees about safety amid the Coronavirus outbreak.

LaFeldt says Quality Inn is expected to reopen on April 6th.

Data released on Monday afternoon by the State of Michigan shows that there are still no confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Shiawassee County.
