While it's winter and we're expecting a storm, the impacts of this particular storm in Shiawassee and neighboring counties won't be those of typical winter weather.  That is to say, there's not going to be a whole lot of snow, ice or cold.  A High Wind Warning has been issued for 7am Sunday February 24th until 4am Monday February 25th.  The impacts of this storm are expected to be significant, particularly, power outages.  Officials warn power outages are not only likely, but are likely to be long-lasting.

High winds will impact the entire state and while snow, ice and cold won't be a factor for many downstate residents, a Blizzard Warning has been issued for more than 25 counties in Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula.  High winds will not only impact Michigan residents but residents in many midwest states, including Ohio and Indiana.  Power outages have the potential to be widespread.

The strongest winds are expected to impact our area in the afternoon and early evening hours of Sunday.

Authorities are encouraging residents to prepare for the worst. This includes keeping food on hand that will be safe without refrigeration and safe to eat without preparation, having flashlights on hand and extra blankets to stay warm.
