Last November, students from Durand's Robert Kerr Elementary School traveled to Flint to see that city's new hockey franchise, the Firebirds, in action. The field trip was the culmination of two months of work by the students, earning the opportunity to go while exploring math, science and other subjects that are surprisingly relevant to the game.

As part of the school's participation in the Flint Firebirds special event that day, the school's Principal, Amy Holek, was given the chance to shoot the puck and try to make a goal.  She would have three chances.  If she could do it just once, she would win Flint Firebirds t-shirts for all the school's students.  Mrs. Holek didn't make just one goal.  She didn't make just two goals.  She made all three goals.

Meanwhile, the Principal of a visiting school from another district didn't make any goals at all.

On Wednesday February 5th, Firebirds reps, including Hot Wing, the team's mascot, came to Robert Kerr for a pep rally where they delivered more than 300 t-shirts and thanked the students for their participation in the event, encouraging them to continue to work hard in subjects like math and science, and to always be kind and exercise good sportsmanship.

Leslie Nierescher, representing Robert Kerr's PTAC, and Jan Harper from the Durand Educational Foundation, also spoke at the pep rally.  Both groups helped pay for the November field trip.

Season 3 Episode 1: The Chair - 1.24.20

Two years ago Josh Strickland purchased an antique chair that purportedly spent decades in the old Owosso Post Office. Today a photo was shared in the Historic Owosso Facebook group. In the photo, a man is sitting in a similar chair. While the thread attempts to figure out who is pictured and where in Owosso the photo was taken, one user suggests that it may have been in the old post office.
