Vernon Township Fire Department was first to respond to Dutch Hollow Golf Club in Durand on Tuesday afternoon shortly before 3pm, on a kitchen fire call, multiple sources told Durand Now.  Mutual aid was requested, bringing out departments from Durand, Shiawassee and Venice Townships.

Onlookers wouldn't know there was any trouble at all.  From the outside, the golf course appears as pristine as usual.  But a source familiar with the situation said a fire was contained primarily to one room, and while there were no visible flames outside, there is light smoke and water damage in the kitchen.

Owner Christi Johnson told Durand Now that it appears the fire was electrical.  Johnson's daughter, Katie, noted that everyone made it out OK and, while the family is in "a little bit of shock," they are working to get the clubhouse back in operating order.

We're told the fire remains under investigation.

Wyndham Lathem, pictured left, and Andrew Warren, right, are in custody in California after a nationwide hunt for the men began with the discovery of a body in Lathem's Chicago high-rise apartment.  The body was that of Trenton Cornell-Duranleau, 26, formerly of Lennon and Corunna.

Few details are available except that the alleged murder of Cornell-Duranleau was gruesome, and that one of the men told his family via video that he had made the worst mistake of his life.
