STORM DAMAGE IN SHIAWASSEE COUNTY
Posted by Durand Now at 11:28pm 5/28/13
Storms in mid-Michigan got their start in
the Perry area at around 8:30pm on
Tuesday night.  Radar indicated rotation
that the National Weather Service later
confirmed was in fact represented by a
funnel cloud in the that area.  That cloud
and heavy winds moved through Shia-
wassee County, causing damage; the
most of which occurred in the Burns area.

A series of photos shows the funnel cloud
moving from Perry into Byron south of Ban-
croft and then into Durand.

The storm produced a tornado that later
touched down in Genesee County, causing
significant damage and displacing numer-
ous families.  There are no fatalities or injuries reported at this time.  Consumers Energy reports 550 without power in Shiawassee County and 4,500 in Genesee County.

More storms that have already produced tornado warnings in southwestern Michigan counties are expected throughout the overnight hours in mid-Michigan.
