UPDATE: Joleen Collier, who identified herself in a Swartz Creek Area Parents and School Community Facebook post as the mother of the Swartz Creek student that was struck by a car on Friday morning, says her daughter has been cleared at the hospital and will be released.  She also noted that, according to her daughter, the driver was distracted by his phone.

A Swartz Creek high school student was struck by a vehicle that was traveling south on Fairchild before school, Superintendent Ben Mainka told Swartz Creek families on Friday morning.

School officials, police and emergency personnel were on scene quickly, he said, and the student was transported to the hospital.
Mainka said the student did appear to have sustained some injuries but was conscious and stable.

Mainka said he has been in contact with city officials and is requesting that some type of pedestrian safety measures be put in place.  He also asked drivers to use caution in the mornings.

"Student safety is a top priority, and we appreciate your help and cooperation in making that possible."
