Railstream LLC places trackside cameras across the country and streams footage for railfans to view. While generally viewing the streams requires a paid Railstream membership, Railstream is offering a free one week preview of brand new cameras placed at Durand Union Station. The free one week preview began Friday December 29th. In the overnight hours of Saturday December 30th, a depot camera captured something a bit unexpected. A group of deer walked into view, spending a considerable amount of time exploring the snow covered legendary diamond at Durand.
Bonus Nugget: Durand is believed by some to have been the first location for an internet rail cam. In the early 2000s, Dennis Clark, who lived across from the depot, used a program called Snappy that grabbed an image every 5 seconds and uploaded it. The camera remained live for around two months, until Clark discovered that when 80 users logged on to view, the internet service provider would get choked up and, in turn, shut the stream down.

Eastbound I-69 has been slow or shut down since around 11am Wednesday as one driver calls the freeway "a solid sheet of ice." A series of accidents began with an accident involving a fifth wheel at I-69 and M-13 at around 11am. That crash locked up traffic for more than an hour. Eventually, cars were able to start moving along the shoulder, but not before more accidents occurred.
