Youth from First Congregational Church of Durand will hit the streets on Sunday. Look for the group going door-to-door in Dover Estates, looking for donations of pop cans and bottles. Donations can also be made at the church during work hours, Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 1:30pm; enter from Washtenaw. If you'd like to arrange a meeting at another location to make a donation, you can do so by contacting Cindy Stull at 810-240-3869.

Evan Gardner Was On Motorcycle When Struck By SUV

Evan Stuart Gardner, a 2015 Durand graduate, passed away on Sunday as the result of a motorcycle accident. The Detroit Free Press reports the Harrison Township crash happened at 5:50pm. Gardner, whose motorcycle had the right of way, was struck by a Chevy Traverse. Three teens in the vehicle had recently departed a L'Anse Creuse High School band practice. They were not injured.
Gardner was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 21 years old.
Funeral services will be held this Saturday at 11am at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel, Pastor Eric Johnson will officiate.
