Middle School Students Approached By Unknown Couple, Offered Ride
Durand Now photo
Durand schools Superintendent Craig McCrumb issued a notice to parents of middle school students on Thursday evening of an incident that occurred after school on that day. McCrumb said a group of students walking home was approached by a couple in a tan colored extended pick-up truck. The truck, an older model, has a sliding rear window and a sticker in the rear window.
A female, estimated to be in her 40s, was driving. A passenger in the truck, a male, was estimated to be in his 50s. The couple asked the group of students if they wanted a ride. The students declined.
McCrumb said the Durand Police Department was contacted and he is urging parents to speak to your children.
Occurances of "stranger danger" reports have been on the rise throughout mid-Michigan.

See Photos and Video from Durand Fire Department Training Exercise
Durand Fire Department conducted a controlled burn on Sunday morning, October 29th 2017. The home on John Street, on Durand's south side, was ignited at around 8am. Twenty minutes later the structure had collapsed. Special "water curtains" were placed on each side of the home in advance of the burn to help protect neighboring structures. Smoke from the blaze could be seen from miles away. More than an hour and twenty minutes after the training exercise began, the home's rubble was still engulfed in flames and firefighters were using special gear to check for hot spots on the neighboring properties.
