DURAND TEACHERS, STAFF PRAISED
After "Stranger Danger" Incident, Durand Schools Staff Take Up Posts Outside Schools and Along Streets to Help Keep Kids Safe
Durand Now photo
Following notice sent by Durand schools Superintendent Craig McCrumb about a "stranger danger" incident that occurred Thursday afternoon, Durand teachers and other staff members hit the streets to help ensure the safety of kids heading to school on Friday morning and heading home on Friday afternoon.
In numerous social posts in varied venues, Principals and other staff were shouted out; Mrs. Holek, Mrs. Dobson and Mrs. Knapp among them, for braving wind and cold on Friday to help keep an eye on things.
McCrumb said a group of middle school students was approached by an unknown couple in a tan pick-up truck on Thursday and asked if they wanted a ride. The students declined.

See Photos and Video from Durand Fire Department Training Exercise
Durand Fire Department conducted a controlled burn on Sunday morning, October 29th 2017. The home on John Street, on Durand's south side, was ignited at around 8am. Twenty minutes later the structure had collapsed. Special "water curtains" were placed on each side of the home in advance of the burn to help protect neighboring structures. Smoke from the blaze could be seen from miles away. More than an hour and twenty minutes after the training exercise began, the home's rubble was still engulfed in flames and firefighters were using special gear to check for hot spots on the neighboring properties.
