Power Restored to Most of the Affected Within Hours

Some Shiawassee County residents experienced a power outage on Friday morning that lasted, for most customers, less than two hours. Terry DeDoes, Consumers Energy's Senior Public Information Officer, told Durand Now "Failed equipment on a utility pole crossarm caused the interruption in electric service to about 3,600 customers".

Evan Gardner Was On Motorcycle When Struck By SUV

Evan Stuart Gardner, a 2015 Durand graduate, passed away on Sunday as the result of a motorcycle accident. The Detroit Free Press reports the Harrison Township crash happened at 5:50pm. Gardner, whose motorcycle had the right of way, was struck by a Chevy Traverse. Three teens in the vehicle had recently departed a L'Anse Creuse High School band practice. They were not injured.
Gardner was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 21 years old.
Funeral services will be held this Saturday at 11am at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel, Pastor Eric Johnson will officiate.
