Alumni spanning five decades joined the 2017 Durand Marching Railroaders on Thursday August 31st for a special performance of the Durand Fight Song, "Victory March," "Locomotive" and "The Star Spangled Banner."
Graduates from as far back as the 1960s to as recently as last year once again found themselves under the direction of Charles Birch and Ed Turner, whose combined contributions to the band also span five decades. Charles Birch was behind the baton from 1964 to 1996 and Ed Turner, from 1984 to 2013.
The band performed during pregame of the Durand varsity football rivalry match-up against the Corunna Cavaliers. The Cavs moved to 2-0 on their season, defeating the Railroaders 47-0.
The special performance also served as the official reveal of the 2017 Marching Railroaders' new uniforms. The band is led by a new director this year. Nick Remesz replaces Chris Anderson who took over after Ed Turner retired in 2013. Anderson left the district last year. The marching band's 2017 show is titled "Contagion." Their first competitive performance is the Chesaning Invitational on September 30th.
