Dr. Douglas E. Brown, Class of 1944, is honored posthumously. Following graduation, Brown served in the Army AirForce. In 1974, Brown began a career with the National Security Agency (NSA). At NSA, Brown worked with laser encryption/de-encryption, an effort that was years ahead of public research in the field of communications. He earned a US patent for a hybrid space/time integrating optical ambiguity processor, a critical component that is used in radar and sonar processing. That patent was assigned to the United States in August 1984. He received recognition for his service and accomplishments from NSA, retiring in 1996.

A reception honoring Dr. Lueker and Dr. Brown will take place on August 9, 2026, at Durand Union Station from 3:30-5:30 pm. The public is invited to attend.
