D.V.A. (Durand-Vernon Area Ambulance), a volunteer organization founded in 1967 when the need for regular available ambulatory service in the City of Durand became apparent, ended service in the city of Durand in 2007 after a long dispute with the city that included a lawsuit by the city against the organization.
D.V.A. claimed it was losing money because there weren't enough calls that would allow the company to operate without a subsidy from neighboring communities and the company and the city could not agree on terms that would provide the company extra money.
Since 2011, MMR (Mobile Medical Response), a regional ambulance company based in Saginaw Michigan, has been under contract to provide service to the city of Durand.
S.S.E.S.A. (Southwest Shiawassee Emergency Services Alliance), operated by Perry Area Fire Rescue, also maintains an ambulance base in rural Durand, providing service to surrounding communities and providing mutual aid to the City of Durand.
